The American Astronaut (2001) FILM DOWNLOAD

Plot: Samuel Curtis, an interplanetary trader, sets forth through a rustic and remote solar system, unaware that his old friend Professor Hess is trying to kill him.

It sounds terrible by reading the plot, but it is seriously a bizarrely original and creative film. I hate sci-fi, but this is barely even a sci-fi film. More of a dystopian western set in space with the odd song. Great soundtrack too which is written by the director. There are some parts of it that I thought were bent, but you have to take these things with a pinch of salt. I think I'm going to buy this one on DVD. You should too if you liked it. Give something back to the small directors.

Koyaanisqatsi (1982)

Probably my favourite film.

Koyaanisqatsi is a 1982 film directed by Godfrey Reggio with music composed by Philip Glass and cinematography by Ron Fricke.

The film consists primarily of slow motion and time-lapse photography of cities and many natural landscapes across the United States. The visual tone poem contains neither dialogue nor a vocalized narration: its tone is set by the juxtaposition of images and music. In the Hopi language, the word Koyaanisqatsi means 'crazy life, life in turmoil, life out of balance, life disintegrating, a state of life that calls for another way of living', and the film implies that modern humanity is living in such a way.

Layla allows herself to be kidnapped and it is clear she is romantically attracted to Billy from the start, but Billy all the while is compelled to deal with his own demons, his loneliness and his depression, and it is only at the end that he allows Layla to give him the love and comfort he has been needing all his life.

Idi i smotri (Come and See) (1985)

One of my top five films of all time. Absolutely incredible film.

A boy is unwillingly thrust into the atrocities of war in WWII Byelorussia, fighting for a hopelessly unequipped resistance movement against the ruthless German forces. Witnessing scenes of abject terror and accidentally surviving horrifying situations he loses his innocence and then his mind.

It's pretty disturbing. You might want to pop Predator on afterwards just balance out your mood.

The Rutles

The Rutles is my favourite comedy film and I thought I'd put it up on this. It's a genius parody of The Beatles with some amazing parody versions of Beatle songs. The whole film is done very well, and I really recommend you watch it. I think you'll appreciate it more if you know a bit about The Beatles music and their history...AND....

Bicycle Thieves (1948)

Ladri di biciclette (released in English as The Bicycle Thief or Bicycle Thieves) is a 1948 Italian neorealist film directed by Vittorio De Sica. It tells the story of a poor man searching the streets of Rome for his stolen bicycle, which he needs to be able to work. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Luigi Bartolini and was adapted for the screen by Cesare Zavattini. It stars Lamberto Maggiorani as the father and Enzo Staiola as the son.

The film is frequently on critics' and directors' lists of the best films ever made. It was given an Academy Honorary Award in 1950, and, just four years after its release, was deemed the greatest film of all time by the magazine Sight & Sound's poll of filmmakers and critics in 1952.[1] The film placed sixth as the greatest ever made in the latest directors poll, conducted in 2002.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007)

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (French: Le scaphandre et le papillon) is a 2007 film based on the memoir of the same name by Jean-Dominique Bauby. The film depicts Bauby's life after suffering a massive stroke at the age of 42, which left him with a condition known as locked-in syndrome. The condition paralyzed him, with the exception of his left eyelid, so that he could only communicate by blinking. The film was directed by Julian Schnabel, written by Ronald Harwood and stars Mathieu Amalric as Bauby. It won awards at the Cannes Film Festival, the Golden Globes and the BAFTA Awards, as well as four Academy Award nominations.

Judex (1963)

Judex (1963) is a French-language crime film remake of the 1916 French film serial of the same name. Directed by French filmmaker Georges Franju, the film stars Channing Pollock as Judex/Vallieres , Edith Scob as Jacqueline, Francine Bergé as Diana and Michel Vitold as Favraux. The plot revolves the banker Favraux, receiving a threatening note from Judex demanding that he pay back people he has swindled. He is later drugged by Judex and locked away. Meanwhile the former governess Diana, kidnaps Jacqueline to try to get the banker's money.

Waltz With Bashir (2008)

I watched Milk yesterday. Gus Van Sant has gone back to his old ways. Although I prefer Last Days and Elephant, Milk is an authentic, poignant biopic. I recommend you watch it.
